Effect of the deposition direction on fracture propagation in a Duplex Stainless Steel manufactured by Directed Energy Deposition

چکیده

Dense volumes of duplex stainless steel are manufactured by directed energy deposition. Compact tension specimens machined from these in order to evaluate the fracture toughness two directions : parallel or perpendicular deposited layers. Different values measured cases. In understand this anisotropy, additional analyzes performed on cracked post-mortem. A classical metallography analysis reveals highly oriented structure material, as well phase localization. The study surface several points. At macroscale, while crack surfaces flat case, pronounced shear lips cover half case. microscale, is ruled microvoid coalescence. mesoscale, which inherited deposition strategy, found pilot growth. border between primary solidified melt pools and heat-affected zones, corresponds interface layers, preferred area for Analyzing roughness confirms dominance its characteristic lengthscale retrieved. This explains differences observed tested fracture: aligned with weak interfaces channel growth; orthogonal one, out-of-plane excursion becomes possible allowing follow a tortuous three-dimensional path that results higher than situation.

Effect of Thermomechanical Processing on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Duplex Stainless Steel

Duplex stainless steels (DSSS) have a microstructure composed of ferrite and austenite phases that gives them a very good combination of mechanical and corrosion properties. These steels are desirable for many applications in the chemical and petrochemical industries. In the present study, a type of stainless steel was cast, solution annealed at 1200°C for 60 min and then quenched in water. Ini...

Local Approach to Fracture of an Aged Duplex Stainless Steel

The local approach to fracture (LAF) is a methodology aimed to calculate macroscopic fracture properties of a body, from the knowledge of the local stress strain field at the fracture site, and the modeling of the acting fracture mechanisms. In the present work, this method was applied to a CF8M steel, aged 30000 h at 325 °C, in order to elucidate if LAF could be able to describe the measured f...

Growth of carbon nanostructures upon stainless steel and brass by thermal chemical vapor deposition method

The lack of complete understanding of the substrate effects on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) growth poses a lot oftechnical challenges. Here, we report the direct growth of nanostructures such as the CNTs on stainless steel 304and brass substrates using thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD) process with C2H2 gas as carbon sourceand hydrogen as supporting gas mixed in Ar gas flow. We used an especi...
